Some FAQS about Wedding Photography
1 how to start wedding photography? To be a photographer you do not need certification or a degree like other professions. Even if you have a degree in photography it does not guarantee you are a good photographer since photography is equal parts technical and artistic. Probably more artistic nowadays since the cameras and software are so amazing.
I went to Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara 12 years ago. However I started wedding photography by shooting a few weddings for friends and then running ads in Wedding Magazines. I do not run ads anymore in the magazines or even in the Knot. I believe brides will best find you by referral or google search.
2 How to do effects in wedding photography with photoshop -The best thing to do here is to shoot in Raw mode (which is similar to a unprocesed roll of film or a negative). This allows you to do non-destructive editing with Photoshop or Lightroom (both of which I use) or Aperture. Effects now come in the form of presets which you can apply with a click of the button.
What I do is shoot Raw and then apply effects later in post production.
3 Wedding photography how to contact newly engaged -the best thing to do here is simply look at the photographer's portfolio. If you like their photography style then this is probably the photographer for you. It is non-sensical to ask a photographer to shoot like other photographers. It is fine to meet with lots of photographers but if I were you I would save yourself the hassle and go ahead and book the photographer you like who is in your budget range.
4 How much does it cost for Wallis wedding photography? Well if you want to book the Wallis in California (yes unfortunately there are several Jason Wallis Photographers) complete photography starts at $3000. I am not the cheapest nor the most expensive. My prices reflect the market and where I stand.
5 How to save money on wedding photography? Wedding photography is tricky. Here's why: you book a photographer and suddenly find out after the wedding you have to pay huge prices for reprints and have no rights to your photos. This is a common complaint. I would recommend you start with the end in mind: what do you want to walk away with?
I offer the high resolution dvds with my weddings. This represents a huge advantage to the bride: you control your own printing and sharing of the photos. You can also build your own albums. Most wedding photographers make huge markups on printing and albums.
6) How to light wedding photography? Weddings happen fast and brides want to enjoy their day. This means the less equipment the better. All you need is a great digital camera or two with on camera flash and an off camera flash for the group portraits. Again, shooting Raw mode alllows for a lot of error in exposure so you can concentrate on getting emotive artistic shots instead. The cameras are so fantastic now the metering systems can calculate good light better than any person.
7) Wedding photography is payment in full in advance standard? Yes. there is asimple reason for this: a photographer's time is limited. If you don't take the day another bride will. Therefore as a measure of security a photographer wants a deposit up front.
8) What is photojournalistic wedding photography? This is a fancy way of saying: non traditional, firing from the hip style. Capturing moments instead of staging shots. There is room for both styles in wedding photography. Photojournalistic is fine but you are not in a war zone so time can be taken to think about the best angles and poses.
9) What is the average price for wedding photography? In Orange County California the average price is probably between $2500-$5000 for the day. be careful here. Do you get the high resolution images? if not, what will it cost for prints and albums and retouching?
10) What is the best wedding photography lens to use? There is no right lens. Each lens sees a situation differently and often defines the photographer's style. My assistant Sean tends to use a wide angle (fisheye) lens for everything with beautiful results. I prefer to use a zoom lens and isolate my subject.
11) What you get for the money wedding photography? That is the best question. When you book a photographer start with the end in mind: add up everything you will pay for: the day, prints etc. A $2000 photographer may suddenly become a $10000 photographer. Do the math: ask print prices, album prices, release of high resolution photos prices...

I asked Jason to shoot a cover for an EP release on iTunes and hoped to come out with at least ONE good shot to use. Back to that in a second..I came in slightly nervous and unsure of whether we would vibe etc etc.. Well, when we finally met all of that went away. He was the nicest, most personable, easy going professional I've met in a long time. He made me feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera by guiding me through each movement. I couldn't be more happy about my decision and highly recommend him for ANY pictures for ANYONE. HE CAN DO IT ALL! Not forgetting to mention we got about 30 great shots that day! Pretty Amazing,..

Jason has the ability to capture a loving, happy couple with their best foot forward. I feel very confident in saying that because I am very critical of my pictures and have a tendency not to like any pictures taken by any photographers. Jason changed my mind. He was able to show our outgoing, loving personalities, and he actually made it hard to choose which pictures I liked the most. He made the entire experience easy and relaxing which came across in our pictures. Jason is a lighting genius I was concerned that our eyes would look small and the light was too bright but when I saw the pictures he got it just right.

I have worked with Jason for over 12 years now, and I would still choose him as my number one photographer for ANY project. His fashion photography is outstanding! He can turn the most boring, flat, plain subject into an amazing photograph. As an Art Director, there is no one I'd rather have working on my magazine or shooting my covers. He's easy to work with, calm, and I always feel like my vision is what he's working towards. He has the creative ability to see what no one else does and make amazing photos!

Jason is our go-to So Cal photographer. I wish we had the budget to send him all over the country to shoot our monthly photo assignments for our magazine! He is extremely creative and knows how to add that extra prop or coax a certain look out of the subjects that make the photos sing. Jason just sent over my wedding photos less than a week after my wedding (talk about timing!) and words cant describe just how PERFECT they all turned out. There are so many reasons why jason is the BEST. For one, he is so calm and collected, his energy and confidence totally kept me cool during the frantic wedding picture time. Second, he just has an eye, he knew the right shots to take and made them happen. The pictures, the colors, the angles, the moments captured are all just exactly what we wanted. Jason's the best! We researched many photographers in the area (and there are a lot!), but we were really impressed with his body of work and his excellant reviews. He has a fantastic eye for original and candid photos which was exactly what we were looking for. He was quick to respond to any questions we had and he made the shoot so much fun! I am just a regular girl, not a model or anything, who's perfectly flawed and wanted her pictures taken. Not just regular photos though! I wanted my photos to look like they belong in a magazine! And that's what I got! Jason was very patient and he guided me throughout the whole photo shoot. He was very complimentable and made me feel at ease. I can't wait to do it all again! Jason has been taking our family photos annually for the last 5 years. Each year he amazes us with the results. His shot locations are always inventive and provide incredible backgrounds. Jason's sense of light is wonderful and shows through in each photograph. Three kids, two dogs and two stressed parents somehow get transformed by Jason & his camera lense. Each year we are amazed by Jason's ability to bring out the best in all of us. My entire family enthusiastically recommends Jason as a phenomenal photographer and all around good person. While researching photographers for a corporate headshot I came across Jason's website. I needed the headshot for a visit to Goldman Sachs that my MBA program is taking. Given Goldman's reputation for being a tough crowd, it was very important that there was great attention to detail. Jason was very professional and easy to work with. He took the time to make sure that the "look" of the photograph conveyed the appropriate message. His passion for photography really shows and it is no wonder why he is so talented. I highly recommend him.

For my first holidays to US West Coast - I'm from Germany- I searched the web for a photographer with a unique style in the L.A. region and found Jason's website. I immediately loved his pictures and knew he is the one to choose. I felt very comfortable from the first second I met him on the day of the shooting. Jason was able to implement my ideas into great photos, though he didn't know before we met. The whole day was easy going and I had a lot of fun. It was great to feel like a model for one day. It is really hard to pick out the best pictures since they are all great. I never had pictures that come close to them. Next time I come back to O.C. I will definitely work with Jason again. Jason is nothing short of amazing, we worked together for a fashion shoot and he made all the models just come to life thru his lense. You can see his work starting July 09 at www.mycitygirl-oc.com It was really tough to pick out the best of all the pictures since all of them looked so fantastic! I cannot wait to work with him again, absolutely no reason to look further. I tell him what I envision and he takes over and delivers it. His rates were surpisingly affordable comparing to the high-end and professional job he does. I am the hardest person to impress and he has definitly accomplished that.

Above pretty much sums it up! I have been using Jason Wallis to shoot my campaigns for the past 4 seasons and I love him, his family and his work.
